It's been almost 30 years since the lively 205 GTI stormed the imagination of petrolheads worldwide and Peugeot are keen to reclaim the title of hot hatch kings with it's 1.6-litre, 208hp, pocket rocket, 208 GTI 30th.

The name might not be too sexy, you'd have thought that the creative department might have opted for something a little more in tune with a car they're touting as a more radical GTI.

The power figures have been jacked from the GTI, not by incredible gains, but enough to blast you past 62mph in a mere 6.5 seconds. 300NM of torque will transfer the 208-ponies through the front wheels to the black top. The styling is unique, we don't think it's ugly, but it's not striking as the GTI chrome has been replaced with matte black touches.

The car will be on sale from 21,995 GBP making it an affordable platform to fettle with. We don't think it will be long before the aftermarket tuners really take this to town
